Lancaster Hole   -   21st. September 1969.   Sunday.

Party:. Pete Llewellyn, Jin Newton, Steve Potter,  Eccles and Jeff Marsland.

Since our findings beyond the upstream sump near Skittle Alley had been published prematurely we decided to again bale the sump and thoroughly explore everything before the pirates appeared. However this did not quite work out as intended as it took an estimated three hours to bale and we only had time to rig two ladders either side of the blockage in the passage and have a quick poke about trying to force the bedding plane at the end of our extension.

We came out of Lancaster Hole at 6 o’clock onto a misty wet and very windy moor. Looking at the survey shows that it is not a long trip in distance however the 8 hours were spent either in hard caving or working. This was shown in Jeff's case, probably only his second trip, when he tried to climb through the ladder instead of down it.  The trip must have had lasting effect as he turned right instead of left at the bottom of the lane and put his car into a ditch,

Peter Llewellyn.
