Red Rose Cave and Pothole Club - Newsletter Vol. 6 No. 5 - October  1969

Penyghent -  21st. September 1969

After receiving an invitation to join the N.S.G. on a trip down Penyghent, three Red Rose members went along. We joined up with seven N.S.G. members at Penyghent Cafe. Rain had fallen the night before  making the trip down most sporting. On reaching the upstream passage where Hunt Pot water joins the main stream, we wore almost swept off down the passage by peaty foaming water. On the last pitch. it was realised the water was rising making the pitch impossible so we returned, to find only about 4" air space on the last stretch of upstream passage. The stream had now gained considerably in size making pitches slightly moist, with one stretch of passage showing froth almost to the roof, but we managed  with  varying  amounts of air space.good if fierce trip was enjoyed by all, to be met by a torrential downpour on the fell. We were clown for ten hours.

Party:- Bunny (N,S.G..) 7 N.S.G. Members, Ian Wilkinson, Andrew Walsh, Roger Calvert (R.R.C.P.C.).

Roger Calvert.
