Blast from the Past:
Sunday 22nd. October 1989
Went
down Sylvester Pot again today. Heavy rain all night so we had to reinforce the
dam. The entrance crack was filling up. First group went through Highway 880 to
try to get downs tight pitch. Jim Davis managed to get a bolt in on the pitch.
Graham and I dug out to the left in a sandy crawl but it was too tight for
normal sized bodies! I went upstream with Frank Croll
and Keith Wright to try to drop the rocks blocking the passage but we needed a
longer bar. Went into Neil's Bedding Plane - fantastic - must be 30 feet wide
with holes in the floor.
We
numbered ours 2 went down 20 feet to a loose chamber and then another loose
chamber with a further pitch going off. It needed stabilising
at the top so but it is going into solid bedrock. Came out knackered. Andy,
Tim, Paul Saville and Frank came out late after
surveying and finding the biggest
chamber so far. The survey shows that this larger chamber is above the passage
with the tight pitch that we found last week.
